Georgia Division of Family and Children Services Teens R 4 Me Conference 2019

Currently, there are over 9,000 foster youth who are school-age and are living in foster family homes, group homes, Child Caring Institutions and other various living arrangements. As these youth experience day to day life, they may endure multiple living placements, educational instability, a loss of connectedness - and as they become teens, a feeling of hopelessness and uncertainty. In an effort to provide even greater resources, information and tools to our youth as they prepare for young adulthood and beyond, our Division annually hosts a conference entitled Teens R For Me. Teens R For Me is an initiative within DFCS to strengthen our Every Child Every Month engagement and support to youth, ages 14-17, in foster care that will ensure their successful transition into young adulthood. Through this effort, our goal is to increase the capacity, support and resources to those who serve older youth in foster care and to provide those older youth in care with the tools they need to be successful adults. 

If you are DFCS staff or a partner/provider who works with teens in foster care, and you would like to attend the 2019 Teens R For Me Conference (adult conference day), we strongly encourage you to attend this year’s conference. A few more things to know about this year’s conference:

• The conference will be located at the Atlanta Evergreen Marriott Conference Resort – 4021 Lakeview Drive, Stone Mountain, GA 30083.
• The one-day adult conference (Thursday, December 5, 2019) is for those individuals who work with older youth in foster care (ages 14 – 17). These individuals include Case Managers and Supervisors, Court Appointed Special Advocates, Providers, Community Partners, Stakeholders, Judges. Regional and County Directors should encourage staff to register and attend.
• This year’s conference theme is “Beyond the Moment” – Helping youth to adapt through the evolution of life.
• Registration is on a first come, first sign up basis. There are a very limited number of slots available. You MUST register to attend.

Registration will close Noon on Friday, November 22, 2019.

Please Note: The registration link above is only for adult attendees. Youth who are interested in attending the Youth Days must contact their regional Independent Living Program Specialist.

*** ADULT HOTEL ROOM RESERVATION NOTE ***

If you will need overnight accommodations and will be reserving a room for Wednesday, December 4, 2019, please contact the  Atlanta Evergreen Marriott Conference Resort directly to make your reservations. Hotel accommodations for adults are not direct billed to the conference and the conference will not be reserving on your behalf through registration.

All attending adults will be responsible for their own rooms (reservations and payment) and should use their agency/organization travel reimbursement procedures and policies. When reserving a room, do not identify the Teens R For Me Conference as a room block. Please request the government rate.
