June 15, 2020 5:29 PM

Greetings All – on behalf of the GARYSE Chafee Program and Office of Provider Management teams, we are pleased to announce a summer training series designed to enhance the services and supports provided to older youth in foster care.

NEW SESSIONS
June 18, 2020
June 26, 2020

The Georgia Resilient Youth-Centered Stable and Empowered (GARYSE) Chafee Program and the Office of Provider Management have collaborated to host a Summer Virtual Training Series for DFCS staff, caregivers, and providers. The purpose of the training series is to enhance the services and supports provided to older youth in foster care as they transition into adulthood. Our summer training series is titled “Journeying Through the GRACE Period”.

We will kick off the Summer Virtual Training Series with the Georgia State University Child Welfare Training Collaborative. These trainings will help participants understand the impact of trauma on brain development, and how cognitive delays or impairments resulting from trauma manifest through behaviors. During the month of June the following trainings will be offered:

  1. Understanding the Impact of Trauma on Children
  2. Understanding the Impact of Trauma on Brain Development
  3. Trauma 201:  Building Resiliency
  4. Recognizing and Managing Secondary Traumatic Stress

Read more about training descriptions and download a copy of the schedule with registration links. CEUs are available for each of the courses provided. Each session is limited to 25 participants; however, there will be multiple training opportunities offered on each day. Participants can register using the links below.

For more information regarding the training series, please contact GARYSE Chafee Program Director Candis Jones at candis.jones@dhs.ga.gov or Office of Provider Management Director Dr. Shaun Johnson at shaun.johnson@dhs.ga.gov.
