E-Blast: Foster Parents, Caregivers and Case Managers - FREE Connected Caregiver Training

January 22, 2016 1:05 PM

Dear Providers,

Sex and relationships are an important part of adolescent development and can influence youth outcomes. In order to make healthy and responsible decisions, young people need support from the adults in their lives. However, adults and caregivers frequently feel ill prepared to initiate these conversations. Some adults and caregivers are afraid they will share too much or not enough, while others believe if they give information children will experiment prematurely. The good news for foster parents, caregivers, and case managers is that there is a lot you can do to positively influence adolescents’ decisions about these topics and their overall well-being.

The Georgia Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) Personal Responsibility Education Program is pleased to host a series of 2-day trainings (Atlanta, Macon and Savannah) designed to help adults become a "Connected Caregiver” that supports the well-being of our youth. These trainings have been designed specifically for foster parents, CCI and CPA caregivers, case managers and other youth support workers. Through funding from DFCS PREP, these trainings are being offered for FREE for up to 50 attendees (per training date). Trainings will begin in February, with encore trainings in March and April. Lunch will be provided at each training. Download a copy of the training flyer here or keep reading for registration information.

Join us to learn the skills you need to become a "Connected Caregiver”, strategies for starting conversations about sensitive topics, and tools for educating youth about healthy relationships and decision making. Registration information is provided below! You must register to attend.
