E-Blast: DFCS Safe to Sleep Initiative

February 25, 2016 3:43 PM

Dear Providers,

Did you know that approximately 3,500 US infants die suddenly and unexpectedly each year, often referred to as sudden unexpected infant deaths (SUID)? According to Georgia Child Fatality Review, as of 2013, Georgia averages 3 infant deaths each week due to a sleep-related cause and the number of children under the age of 1 years old die from a sleep-related cause such as SIDS/SUID, suffocation, entrapment or asphyxia has remains fairly constant in the State of Georgia.

In March 2016, Georgia Division of Family and Children Services will launch the first DFCS Safe to Sleep Initiative! The initiative will include video training for the division staff, contractors, and providers.

More information along with instructions will be provided once the DFCS Safe to Sleep Initiative is launched in March 2016.

We thank you in advance for your participation with this great endeavor and for joining us in another opportunity to help keep Georgia's children safe!

For additional information, please contact DFCS Safety Coordinator, Kim Washington, at Kim.Washington@dhs.ga.gov or 404-463-7276 (office) or 770-714-6899 (cell).
