Foster Caregiver Water Safety Assessment

Resource Development Policy 14.19 outlines the requirements for DFCS and CPA foster homes that have access to a pool or sit on a waterfront property. In an effort to ensure compliance with the safety guidelines outlined in policy, it is required that the "Foster Caregiver Water Safety Assessment” below be completed on each foster home that meets the aforementioned criteria. The "Foster Caregiver Pool Safety Guidelines” should be used as a quick reference for staff during the completion of the water safety assessment.

This memorandum and attachments must be completed by Georgia's CPA providers. It is the expectation that such assessments be completed on all caregivers who have pools of any kind, or live on a waterfront property. Caregivers who live in a subdivision or apartment complex with a community pool must also be assessed.

These assessments must be completed by July 5, 2016. The assessment should be submitted to GA+SCORE as an addendum; select the category as "Other” for the reason.

Please complete the tracking form that is discussed in the memorandum and send it to opmreports@dhs.ga.gov by July 8, 2016. If there are any additional questions, please contact Dr. Shaun Johnson at (404) 657-3762 or Shaun.Johnson@dhs.ga.gov.
